Track Record of Community Service in Provo
Serving others has always been an important part of my life. I enjoy interacting with people, serving alongside them, and being a part of the solution. My husband and I have always found joy in service while teaching our five children of its importance. My service has made me a better leader, as well as more knowledgeable about the different areas in Provo, their strengths and their needs, and how to effectively work for the public good. My goal has always been to leave things better than how I found them. I believe that for Lakewood, I have done just that. With two neighborhood matching grants, we were able to get new playground equipment for our park and some speed signs along 500 West.

Our family has always loved decorating for the holidays. After I became the Lakewood Neighborhood Chair, some residents expressed to me how important they felt it was to build a sense of community by celebrating Halloween. My neighbors are good sports and love to decorate for the holidays as well, so their playful challenge of a decorating competition became something I embraced. I opened it up to the neighborhood, and it evolved into a Halloween map. Of course, our decorations evolved, and instead of a few inflatables, the lawn has grown into a full-on walk-through haunt.
In 2022, our free little haunt was recognized as one of 10 Utah County House Haunts by Utah.Fun.Guide on Instagram. We host many families during the month of October, and we're pleased that our efforts are bringing together neighbors where they can interact with each other as a community and promote trick-or-treating within the neighborhood.
Our home is also known for its Christmas Decorations. We do a big display every year. Although it is not as big as our Halloween display, it is close, and we get comments on how appreciative people are of our efforts to make Provo brighter during the Holiday Season. In the last few years, I have also created a Christmas display map and posted it to the Neighborhood Facebook Pages.
Advocating for Residents
As a West Side Area Representative, it was important to me to keep the residents informed of what was going on in the city. This quickly expanded to keeping residents informed in Franklin and Franklin South as well as west side neighborhoods.
I also helped several residents navigate the city bureaucracy to find solutions, get answers, or express their concerns to city staff and decision makers.
A couple of examples are turning in resident concerns for both a stop sign and a cross walk at 700 West and 500 South in Franklin Neighborhood as well as a crosswalk at 1020 South 1100 West in Sunset Neighborhood.
Service Projects
As the Lakewood Neighborhood Chair and as a resident, I've hosted several service projects where people came together to better the neighborhood.
I also filed to rezone Lakewood Park to Open Space, Parks, and Recreational zoning. This allowed the area to be preserved as open space for the enjoyment of all residents for years to come.
Listens to both sides of the issues
One of my responsibilities as a Neighborhood Chair was to collect feedback from residents and present that feedback to City Council members, city staff, and planning commission members. I take citizen feedback very seriously. My track record shows that I took notes at neighborhood meetings, and I spent hours transcribing them so that the individual residents' voices were heard. I also took screenshots of Open City Hall (the Council's public engagement forum) and Facebook comments and included them with my meeting reports.
I believe that everyone has a unique perspective, and they need to be heard and considered before making a decision. For this reason, I have spent hours trying to convey that feedback to the appropriate decision-makers.

Low taxes
Bachelor of Accounting from Utah State University
As a stay-at-home mom and wife of a school teacher, I understand the sacredness and sacrifice of taxes. I understand living on a strict budget; therefore, it is important to me to try and keep taxes as low as possible while maintaining our quality of life and meeting the needs in Provo. I consider my accounting degree and work experience an asset in understanding the city budget and working to keep this goal.
